I met Anja McCloskey @ Mexicains Sans Frontieres on Wednesday Feb 16, 2011. This was the 3rd stop on a tour of the US that would take them through 8 states for 9 shows over the course of 9 days. The rest of the band was to meet them later in Chicago for this tour.
Even though McCloskey and her violinist Mike Kinney had driven over 1,000 miles in 3 days, they were excited to be in Grand Rapids to share their music with the eager crowd. Continue reading
AMERICAN ROOTS FEST at the Wealthy Theatre is a new event being produced by Operation Resources Inc, a non-profit org in Grand Rapids. The operate Unity Magazine, of which my recent post was featured in. Their main goals are to promote unity among the different cultures and to offer opportunities for education to young people trying to better their lives

The experimentalist jazz pioneer Carl Ludwig Hubsch is bringing his Longrun Development of the Universe Trio to Mexicains Sans Frontieres on Tuesday November 2nd. Renowned for his unconventional style of playing on the tuba, Hubsch will perform his avant garde brand of sound art along with Mathias Schubert on tenor saxophone, and Wolter Wierbos on trombone.
